(1) Does the minister support the Premier’s comment that outcomes-based education means going through a situation in which a teacher goes into a classroom, expounds and puts forward his point of view of what is happening and does not take any interest in the level of development or whether students are absorbing the ideas? (2) Will the minister accept the sympathy of all members for the embarrassment caused to her by her leader? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

(1)-(2) This government is committed to the outcomes and standards framework. This government will continue to implement the outcomes and standards framework. This government will not shy away from the introduction of the outcomes and standards framework in years 11 and 12. This government and I recognise how important it is to prepare students for a future. I recognise how important it is to ensure that the education system serves all students, not just the 25 per cent who are going to university. Why should the children of taxpayers who pay money to support the education system not have year 11 and 12 education that is structured in such a way that provides the best opportunities for their education? If we cannot provide all students with the best opportunities, quite frankly, we are not doing our job. It is my intention that the education system meets the needs of all students, not just the select few who go to university. I will fight and be prepared to protect the principles of equality, inclusiveness and opportunity for all.
