148. Hon Simon Ehrenfeld to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the
operation of the Mitchell Freeway smart freeway system.
(1) Has any of the infrastructure related
to the smart freeway, including on-ramp signals, been out of operation during
2026?
(2) If so, for approximately how long
were they out of operation?
(3) What has been the increase in average
travel time between Hester Avenue and the Perth CBD since 1 February 2026
compared with a similar period prior to installation of the smart system?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question and provide the following
answer on behalf of the Minister for Transport.
(1)–(2) Yes; however, most outages were rectified
within a few hours.
(3) There has been a reduction in travel
time following the installations of smart freeway technology.
