FIREARMS ACT —
REFORM
1354. Hon Dr BRIAN WALKER to the minister representing the
Minister for Police:
I refer the minister to the
Firearms Act reform consultation document released by the government and Western
Australia Police Force earlier this week.
(1) Given there
are 73 references to regulations in that consultation document, will the
minister circulate draft regulations for the consideration of interested
parties as part of the current consultation process?
(2) If no, how
can people properly comment on the proposals when so much information on the
practical implications of the proposed reforms remain unclear?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to me
by the Minister for Police.
(1)–(2) The
Western Australia Police Force advises that following the public consultation
period, which is open until 14 November 2023, comments or suggestions regarding
proposed changes will be accumulated, analysed and considered in finalising the
proposed new firearms legislation. As is the normal practice, regulations will
be finalised following the passage of the bill.
