I thank the
honourable member for some notice of this question.
(1) Yes. The
government is planning to demolish the unsafe and excess infrastructure at
Oombulgurri.
(2) Since the
closure of Oombulgurri, the Department of Aboriginal Affairs has had ongoing
consultation with the Balanggarra Aboriginal Corporation regarding the future
of Oombulgurri and its assets. At a site visit at Oombulgurri with the
chairperson of BAC on 24 September 2012, it was proposed that housing not
suitable for habitation, based on a Department of Housing report, would be
demolished. It was discussed that potential future use of the infrastructure
could influence the demolition proposal. BAC has not responded to multiple
requests to discuss potential future use since this meeting.
(3) No.
(4) Not
applicable.
