I must apologise that this question left my office addressed to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Indigenous Affairs, so if the Minister for Housing and Works does not have an answer I will accept the blame. (1) Did the Department of Housing and Works engage environmental consultants Ecoscape (Australia) Pty Ltd to undertake an environmental assessment for the Albion town development? If so, did the contract specify a date for the finalisation and presentation of the environmental assessment report? (2) Has the report been received? If so, has it been submitted to the City of Swan and the several landowners involved in the Albion town development? Hon NICK GRIFFITHS

I thank the member for some notice of this question. I know of his interest in the subject, so I wanted to make sure there was an answer to this question. I am advised that - (1) Yes. The Department of Housing and Works initially engaged Ecoscape (Australia) Pty Ltd in late 1996 when it commenced progressing site investigation, planning, engineering and environmental studies for the project area. At the time of contract there was limited knowledge on the environmental issues, including their level of complexity. For this reason the time required to investigate and report on these issues could not be ascertained. (2) No. The report is currently being finalised by Ecoscape.
