BROWSE LNG PROJECT — ONSHORE PROCESSING
498. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
I refer to the article ''$2b trade-off hope for gas
base'' in The West Australian on 5 August 2013 in which the Premier is quoted as having said —
''There are other companies
operating in the Browse Basin that intend to do LNG onshore, not offshore the
project.''
(1) Which companies intend to do LNG
onshore in the Browse Basin?
(2) When did the Premier have
discussions with these companies?
(3) What was the nature of the
discussions?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question. I note that this question
was asked on 7 August.
(1) The companies that have oil and gas
holdings in the Browse Basin are a matter of public record and include a number
of the oil and gas super majors. Many of these companies have the capability to
develop an onshore LNG project, subject to proving up sufficient gas reserves.
(2)–(3) Discussions covering a range
of matters with companies operating in Western Australia, including in the Browse
Basin, are ongoing.
