Beacons International is proposing to establish an $80 million biomass power station and Lignor Pty Ltd a $150 million engineered strand lumber plant. Both projects propose to use plantation blue gum timber as feed stock and will be located at the Mirambeena Timber Process Precinct at Albany. The projects have the potential to return substantial economic benefits to the region including the creation of 170 direct employment opportunities, new markets for higher order value adding to plantation timber, and an increase in Gross State Product by some $60 million per year. The Working Group is an important forum for streamlining government processes as much as possible. Key issues have been progressed with respect to site rezoning, environmental approvals and identification of key infrastructure needs. Southdown Magnetite Working Group The Southdown Magnetite Working Group is chaired by the Great Southern Development Commission to assist Grange Resources through the planning and approvals processes for the establishment of its $400 million magnetite mine at Wellstead in the Great Southern. The Working Group has been instrumental in providing a forum for Grange Resources to liaise and work through issues with relevant State and Local Government agencies in relation to the project. Grange is currently undertaking a $13.5 million bankable feasibility study. In parallel to the feasibility study, the Working Group is progressing issues relating to the slurry pipeline route to the Port, environmental approvals and infrastructure needs.
