1148. Hon ALANNA CLOHESY to the minister
representing the Minister for Culture and the Arts:
(1) What
recommendations or submissions has the State Records Commission made to the
minister about the establishment of a permanent archival facility?
(2) What options
have been identified by the Department of Culture and the Arts, or any agency
that reports to DCA, for housing the estimated 55 kilometres of archive boxes
that are currently held by government departments?
(3) What is the cost of each option?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for some notice
of the question.
(1) The
Department of Culture and the Arts undertook a review of the State Records
Office in the last 12 months, which considered the storage needs for the state
archives and other operational matters.
(2) The review
identified a number of options, including the development of a new facility,
repurposing an existing building, leasing arrangements or retaining the
existing state archives facilities. These options will need to be further
assessed as part of a thorough business case.
(3) No formal
costings have been undertaken as part of the review. The options identified in
the review will be explored in further detail as part of the development of the
business case.
