(1)–(2) I thank the member for the
question. Of course, a key plan of this government under Premier Roger Cook is
the continual diversification of the economy to continue our strong economic
growth and strong state final demand and jobs growth. Of course, having key
tourism precincts is a key part of that diversification. As we know, we cannot sit
still; other states are continuing to develop tourism products and tourism
precincts and we have to continue to support diversification of the economy. That
is why we were very pleased to announce and to release our summary business
case in relation to Perth Park, which shows the investment in Perth Park will
deliver an economic benefit to this state in nominal terms of 1.84 and in discounted
terms of 1.35. That means there will be a net economic benefit to the state.
This is part of our overall
vision to continue to create the jobs of the future, knowing, again, we cannot
sit still. We have to think about future generations and make sure we continue
our events strategy to bring people to WA. The events strategy is working. We
have seen incredible accommodation numbers in relation to occupancy and we
continue to drive the economy.
Who is against it? It is the Liberal
Party, and the Greens are also joining in the "no-alition". I do not
know if members saw the Leader of the Opposition on Sunday with his new bestie,
the Leader of the Greens. Sorry, member for Central Wheatbelt; his new bestie
is the Leader of the Greens WA. Of course, both ran councils into the ground,
so they have something in common. The Leader of the Opposition and the Leader of
the Greens were standing at a protest against Perth Park. This is another
photo. This is me at my cousin's 50th on Sunday. Happy birthday, Sandra, for
yesterday. She turned 50. More people were at my cousin's 50th than were at the
protest, members! I checked in and asked, "How many are at the protests?"
They told me, and then I said, "So, there's more people here at my cousin
Sandra's 50th." And, of course, the arancini were fantastic, members!
The Leader of the Opposition does
social media 50 times a day, but he did not do any social media from the event.
Meanwhile, the Leader of the Opposition and the Leader of the Greens were sad
and complaining about activating the precinct, which we just heard about from
the member for Roe. He said, "It's great when people come to that
precinct; they see the whole area when they go to the tennis precinct and they
see Optus Stadium." He loves a precinct and he loves the activation of a
precinct, as we just heard. While the Leader of the Opposition was there sad
with the Leader of the Greens, what was happening in Adelaide? A hundred
thousand people were watching Supercars on Sunday.
This is an example of a state
government that is moving the state forward, has new ideas and new initiatives,
and is diversifying the economy, making sure that Western Australia continues
to be the leading state of the nation in relation to our economy. We will
continue to invest in jobs and the jobs of the future, and we will make sure
that our events strategy keeps delivering benefits to all Western Australians.
