I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. (1) Yes. The Department for Planning and Infrastructure has prepared a new draft regional strategy entitled “Directions 2031: Draft Spatial Framework for Perth and Peel”, which was released for public comment today. This strategy identifies key policy and planning actions required for its implementation. One of the recommendations is for the preparation of a subregional structure plan for the north east subregion, which will include a review of the north eastern hills settlement pattern plan, amongst others. (2) The preparation of the subregional structure plan includes the preparation of an urban growth management strategy, which has been initiated and is expected to be considered by the Western Australian Planning Commission in November 2009 and finalised by February 2010. (3) The subregional structure plan will follow the urban growth management strategy process and is scheduled to be advertised for public comment in mid-2010. All key state government and local government stakeholders will be consulted initially and this will be followed by extensive public consultation. (4) The subregional structure plan is scheduled to be completed by mid to late 2010.
