NICHELIVING — HOUSING INDEMNITY INSURANCE
SCHEME
1427. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the Minister for Commerce:
I refer to media reports that Projex
Management and Construction, trading as Nicheliving, has entered external
administration, as well as reports that customers are continuing to seek state
government assistance for losses not covered by their home indemnity insurance.
(1) Will Nicheliving's
entry into external administration affect the ability of existing customers to
access their home indemnity insurance?
(2) Will the
Building and Energy division investigate claims that Nicheliving requested
payments for incomplete work, leaving many
customers substantially out of pocket, some by as much as $100 000, which they now may be unable to recover?
(3) Will the
state government consider offering additional financial support to affected
customers who are struggling to complete their homes due to significant
financial strain?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Projex
Management and Construction Pty Ltd, Nicheliving, being placed into external
administration does not impact home owner access to home indemnity insurance.
(2) The
Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety's Building
and Energy division, will assesses and investigate all complaints made to it.
(3) The Cook
government has assisted affected Nicheliving home owners by ensuring they could
make claims under their HII policies. In addition, in September 2022, the Cook
government doubled the minimum required level of cover provided under HII
policies to $200 000 and backdated the coverage to all HII policies issued from
1 June 2020.
