I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
The following figures represent the number of registrable
employees within each category as at 30 September 2015 —
(a) education assistants: 200 headcount, representing 118.98 full-time
equivalents;
(b) cleaners: one headcount, representing one FTE; and
(c) gardeners: five headcount, representing 1.35 FTE.
Within each category of employee some have been placed in
fixed-term temporary vacancies. In a workforce the size of the Department of
Education there are always employees whom may become surplus to immediate
requirement. New vacancies arise on a daily basis, and these provide
opportunities for registrable employees to secure alternative positions. It has
never been any different and it is a continuous process. There is no time limit
on how long an employee can be classified as registrable.
