890. Hon SUE ELLERY to the minister representing the
Minister for Health:
I refer to the statement of the Treasurer and the Premier of
26 September 2012 announcing an immediate lowering of the ceiling on full-time
employees and a 1.5 per cent reduction in the 2012–13 budgets for
consumables.
(1) What is
the revised FTE ceiling as a result of the announcement in each of the
following service areas —
(a) public hospital admitted
patients;
(b) home-based hospital programs;
(c) palliative care;
(d) emergency department;
(e) public hospital non-admitted
patients;
(f) patient transport;
(g) prevention, promotion and
protection;
(h) dental health;
(i) continuing care; and
(j) contracted mental health?
(2) What was
the vacancy level in each of those service areas at the time of the
announcement?
(3) What is
the dollar figure of the 1.5 per cent cut in purchasing consumables in each of
those service areas?

The revised FTE ceiling for Health is 34 473 FTE, compared with the approved
ceiling of 34 646 FTE announced in the 2012–13 budget. The distribution
of the reduction across service areas is yet to be determined.
(2) The
adjustment was determined at a whole-of-Health level, and the vacancy by
service areas is not yet known.
(3) The 1.5 per
cent reduction in expenditure on procurement of goods and services represents a
saving of $14 million at the whole-of-Health level. The distribution by service
areas is not yet known.
