1. The Department of Sport and Recreation is working with State sporting associations, regional groups and community clubs on assisting them develop and implement risk management strategies, which will in time help reduce premiums. 2. The Department is on each of the State Government's working parties on insurance and providing input on behalf of the sport and recreation industry. 3. The Department is a member of the sub committee of the Standing Committee on Recreation and Sport (SCORS), national working party on insurance, which is addressing strategies from a national perspective. These include risk management education programs, Australian Standards awareness programs on risk management and the potential of pooling through national organisations, which would increase their purchasing power and reduce premiums. 4. The Department is also working with other Government agencies on the need for relevant legislation, which is intended to provide support to sport and recreation groups, such as volunteer protection legislation, land ownership legislation and Good Samaritan legislation.
