The Minister has provided the following answer:
Consumer Protection arm of DOCEP:
(1) $22749.80. This comprises nearly 800 individual bad debts ranging in amounts from, in the main, 50 cents to $108.
(2) In excess of 90% of the bad debts related to Business Names and Associations. All the write offs are in accordance with the appropriate legislation and some of the main reasons are, justifiable waiver of late fees, minor underpayments at time of fee changes, additional lodgement fee due to departmental error, minor name change and dishonoured payment on application or renewal resulting in cancellation of registration.
(3) The business areas have follow up procedures and this process is implemented prior to writing off any amounts as bad debts.
