SIR CHARLES GAIRDNER HOSPITAL - BREAST SCREENING CLINIC
I refer to the breast screening clinic at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and ask - (1) Will the ultrasound machine that is approximately 13 years old, and obviously outdated, be replaced this year? (2) The clinic is seen by the public as a centre of excellence, yet there are only two ultra machines, one that is four years old and one that is 13 years old. Will the minister give a commitment that the old machine will be replaced this year? Hon SUE ELLERY

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. (1) Replacement of the 13-year-old ultrasound machine is scheduled for 2007-08. (2) Whilst the older sound machine is classified as a high priority for replacement, the breast screening clinic maintains a high level of service with the existing machines. The other ultrasound machine is four years old.
