Firearms—Licence amendments—Members of Parliament
78. Hon Louise Kingston to the minister representing the Minister for Police:
(1) Can the minister confirm whether any members
of Parliament, including the member for Warnbro, applied for or were granted
amendments or additions to their firearms licences in the lead-up to the 31 March
2025 firearms reform deadline?
(2) If yes to (1), who granted the approval?
(3) What safeguards are in place to ensure that members
of Parliament and other public office holders do not receive preferential
treatment in firearms licensing processes?

I thank the member
for some notice of the question. I note that the member for Warnbro no longer
exists because the seat was renamed. In any event, I think the member is
referring to Hon Paul Papalia. The following answer has been provided to me by
the Minister for Police.
(1)–(2) The Western Australia Police Force
advises that due to operational sensitivities, specific information relating to
firearms licences of individuals will not be released. The minister has been advised
directly by the member for Secret Harbour, Hon Paul Papalia CSC MLA, that he
does not hold a firearms licence.
(3) Firearms applications are assessed in relation
to when they are submitted and are dealt with on an oldest to newest priority.
No person is given preferential treatment when applying or managing a firearms
licence.
