DUNCRAIG
PRIMARY SCHOOL — ASBESTOS REMOVAL
264. Hon SUE ELLERY to the
Minister for Education:
I refer to Duncraig Primary School and its asbestos-backed
floor tiles in its classrooms. Why is there no funding in the department's
budget to replace the 40-year-old asbestos tiles in the classroom given that,
if disturbed, they could be a risk to the children at the school?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question. The Department of Education's budget does not contain a
specific allocation of funds for the remediation of asbestos-containing
materials in schools. When remediation is required, it is funded from the
maintenance allocation. The floor tiles at Duncraig Primary School have been
assessed as part of the recent asbestos audit and determined to be at the
lowest end of the risk scale. They are generally considered to be in good
condition and even if disturbed, the risk posed does not alter significantly.
The Department of Education has advised that the degraded floor tiles will be
replaced outside of school hours in March 2014.
ENEABBA TO
MOONYOONOOKA TRANSMISSION LINE
265. Hon
DARREN WEST to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for
Energy:
I refer to the Barnett government's failure to build
the Eneabba to Moonyoonooka transmission line, which has adversely impacted the
residents of Kalbarri.
