❓ Mr. Wyatt questions the status of the Gordon Action Plan initiatives, their integration into current government policies, and the potential reconsideration of a deputy children’s commissioner for Aboriginal children. The response indicates the Public Accounts Committee has ceased follow-up on the matter, deeming it ineffective.

I refer to the Public Accounts Committee’s
Review of Auditor General’s Reports 2010-2011
. The Committee concludes that unravelling the expenditure of the Gordon Action Plan across so many agencies is unlikely to be cost-effective or even possible due to the changes in government policy that have meant many of the Gordon Action Plan initiatives have been superseded by other structures and services, such as the Closing the Gap approach, and ask:
(a) which of those implemented Gordon Action Plan initiatives, which did not have a finite end date, have continued to be operational, and:
(i) how have the initiatives from (a) been integrated into any new policies and approaches of the Barnett Government;
(ii) will the initiatives from (a) continue to be operational; and
(iii) how is the progress and impact of the initiatives from (a) being assessed;
(b) which of those implemented Gordon Action Plan initiatives, which did not have a finite end date, have not continued to be operational:
(i) why are the initiatives from (b) no longer operational; and
(ii) what, if anything, has replaced the initiatives from (b); and
(c) will the Government reconsider the establishment of a deputy children’s commissioner for Aboriginal children and youth, as recommended by the Gordon Inquiry?

It should be noted that correspondence addressed to the Committee becomes the property of the Legislative Assembly and cannot be forwarded to any other party without the authorisation of the Committee. The Freedom of Information Act 1992 provisions also cannot be applied to Committee documents. After considering the report, the Committee wrote to DAA advising that the Committee has resolved to conclude its follow up on the matter as it is unclear whether continuing to seek response to the 2005 audit report is the most effective or efficient way to assess if government and agencies have met the challenges and issues identified in the Gordon report. I will not be requesting that DAA continue to report on the implementation of Gordon initiatives.
