LIVE ANIMAL EXPORT TRADE
686. Mr R.S. LOVE to the Premier:
I refer to the decision by Queensland's Labor state
conference to support the ending of all live animal exports. Does WA Labor
support this position; and, if not, how does it plan to make the case to its
Queensland counterparts about the importance of this industry to Western Australia's
producers?
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Members on my right, your leader is on
his feet. I want to hear him.

As I understand it, the
National Party member of Parliament has asked me about a resolution of the
Queensland state conference of the Labor Party, and the relevance of that in Western
Australia. The relevance of that is zero in Western Australia. Just so the
member is aware, Queensland is this state that is on the other side of Australia.
It is slightly to the north of where we are now, but it is a long way away from
here, and they pass motions at their state conference. The New South Wales
National Party, for instance, leaked a document about a Western Australian
woman. What is the member's position on that? I think that has a bit
more relevance in this environment. What does the member think about the
National Party leaking that document about Catherine Marriott? Does he think
the National Party should have done that? Perhaps he should be answering
questions about that. Obviously, what the Queensland state conference of the
Labor Party does is a matter for them.
