BASSENDEAN VOLUNTEER FIRE AND RESCUE SERVICE —
DEREGISTRATION
459. Mr D.J. KELLY to the Minister for Emergency Services:
I ask a supplementary question. The minister wants us to
believe that he respects the contribution that these volunteers have made. So
why is he asking them to relocate from a fire station to a demountable classroom
with a sea container for their equipment?

Member for Bassendean, the people of
Bassendean are being well serviced. The member's electorate is about to
be serviced by a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility out at Kiara, just down the
road from the current station.
Ms
M.M. Quirk interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Girrawheen, I call you to order for the second time.
Carry on, minister.
Mr
J.M. FRANCIS : What they have at the moment is one station that houses the
career guys and the volunteer guys. It is past its use-by date. The member for
Bassendean will get the best and most modern fire station in Western Australia,
just down the road, to service his electorate, backed up, when needed, by
another career brigade. If the member for Bassendean wants to stand here and
say he does not think that is the right way to go, that is fine; that is his
choice. But I think the people of his electorate deserve to get the first-class
service that they are paying for.
