Notes:
1. Statistics are provisional and subject to revision.
2. Statistics are of persons charged where an associated case and brief has been created between 01 January 2022 and 13 November 2022 and the offender was under the age of 18 at the time of the offence. This excludes charges where the associated case and brief has been deleted or where security caveats are in place.
3. A person’s ethnicity and date of birth is based on the latest available record in the Incident Management System (IMS).
4. IMS records ethnicity information using two fields; “Ethnic Appearance” and “Stated Ethnicity”. “Ethnic Appearance” refers to an apparent ethnic appearance of the person, as identified by the attending officer, whilst “Stated Ethnicity” is the self-identified ethnicity provided by the person upon questioning. For the purposes of the provided tables, “Offender Indigenous Status” has been determined based on these IMS fields. “Stated Ethnicity” has been used where possible, with “Ethnic Appearance” used only where the “Stated Ethnicity” is unknown or missing. However, as “Ethnic Appearance” is a subjective assessment, recorded by an officer at the time, these designated ethnicities may be incorrectly attributed.
5. The location is based on where the offence occurred.
6. In Table 1 and Table 2, due to the use of distinct counts for the number of persons, a person can commit an offence across multiple suburbs and can be part of a different age group depending on when the offence occurred between 01 January 2022 and 13 November 2022. As such, the total distinct persons may not be equal to the sum of the constituent values. For example, A person can commit an offence on the 01 January in Broome when they were 11, and then on the 01 August in Bilingurr when they were 12. In this instance, they will only be counted once in the total distinct persons but the same person will be included in both in Bilingurr and Broome for the corresponding ages when the offence occurred.
(1) The number of distinct persons aged under 18 charged with an offence in the Kimberley District between 01 January 2022 and 13 November 2022 (inclusive) is 306. Refer to Table 1 for breakdown by age and suburb.
