I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to me
by the Minister for Corrective Services. The Department of Justice advises the
following.
(1) Between 20 July 2022 and 13 November 2023, 60
distinct young people have been accommodated at unit 18.
(2) There were 49.
(3) For self-harm serious, there
were eight; self-harm minor, 383; and suicide, see note below.
(4) For self-harm serious, there
were four; self-harm minor, 274; and suicide, see note below.
The responses to (3) and (4) do not
include the apparent suicide of an Aboriginal young person in October 2023.
This incident is subject to a coronial inquest.
