PUBLIC SECTOR WAGES
POLICY
491. Ms L. METTAM to the Premier:
I refer to the Premier's
wages policy and his quote —
''We are keen to deliver fair
wage outcomes and appropriate conditions to the important workforces in our public
sector
Why has the Premier supported
Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union workers receiving a 25 per cent
increase when working on state government projects while only offering nurses a
nine per cent increase?
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Order, please.

Once again, the Leader of the
Liberal Party has come into this place to spread untruths, make false
statements and cause division in the community. That is all the opposition
does. That is its only modus operandi. It comes in and finds an opportunity to bring division and discontent via misinformation
and untruths. It is a disgraceful way for an opposition to conduct itself. We continue to make sure that we bargain
in good faith with all the public sector unions , that we deliver good outcomes for the unions and their members and that
we have a public sector wages policy that not only secures good wages
outcomes, but, importantly, also makes sure that people have good conditions.
There is a range of outcomes that
those workers are looking for. There is only one government in this state that
will deliver these good outcomes, and that is a WA Labor government. We have a public
sector wages policy that is very generous and allows unions and their members
the flexibility to negotiate for the specific needs of their cohort of workers.
That is the way it should be. We will sit down and negotiate with them in good
faith for great outcomes, and that, Madam Speaker, is good for everyone.
