(2) All field staff are required to undertake Foundation Case Practice training as soon as possible after they commence work in the Department. The ongoing training and professional development needs of individual staff are considered in supervision. The Department’s Community Skills Training Centre provides essential development opportunities for staff. In addition staff are able to access training from other agencies. The training that is provided is particular to the circumstances of the individual. For example, Team Leaders are more experienced staff and they are able to access specific Team Leader training. (3) The Community Skills Training Centre is offering the following courses in 2004: - Foundation Case Practice - Team Leader Professional Development - Developing Staff Performance through Supervision - Legal Issues in Child Protection - Child Sexual Abuse - Safety Assessment Framework - Protecting Babies - Managing Aggressive and Violent Persons or Incidents - Parenting a Child who has been Sexually Abused - Physical and Emotional Abuse and Neglect of Children - Joint Approach to Child Abuse (with WA Police Service) - Interviewing Children - What we can learn from Child Death Reviews - Loss and Grief for families where Children are in Care - Effects of Placement on Carers and their families - Recognising Child Abuse for Community Workers - Looking After Children - Introduction to Play Therapy - Case Review Board - Group Facilitation (4) Field staff participate in Foundation Case Practice Training as soon as possible after they commence work with the Department.
