FITPACKS — NEEDLE AND SYRINGE PROGRAM
1201. Hon NEIL THOMSON to the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
My apologies, Madam President. I was
engrossed in the excellent answer by the honourable member. I refer to the
Premier's comments on News Regional WA on Friday 11 October
regarding the distribution of needles in Broome.
(1) Given the severity of this
issue, has the Premier requested or received a briefing on this matter?
(2) If yes to (1), when was this
briefing requested and when did the briefing occur?
(3) Has he met with the member for
the Kimberley to discuss this issue directly; and, if yes, on what date?
(4) Does the
state carry any responsibility or liability associated with the used needles
littered on the streets and creating risk to the community?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(4) Unlike
members of the Liberal Party, who have spread misinformation related to WA
Health's Kimberley needle and syringe program, the member for Kimberley
is an incredible advocate for her community. The Premier is regularly updated
on issues across the state.
