TAXIS —
UBER — INSURANCE LEVY
64. Hon KATE DOUST to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
With regards
to Uber, I ask the minister to clarify the following.
(1) Is a
passenger travelling in an Uber vehicle in Western Australia today insured?
(2) Why do
normal taxi service providers have to pay a levy to bail out the taxi industry?

AnswerView source ↗

On behalf of the parliamentary secretary representing the
Minister for Transport, I thank the member for some notice of the question and
provide the following response.
(1) The Department
of Transport collects compulsory third party insurance premiums on behalf of
the Insurance Commission of Western Australia. It is not responsible for the
administration of the insurance and such enquiries should be answered by ICWA.
(2) Taxi
dispatch services registered with the Department of Transport do not pay any
fees or levies to the Department of Transport.
