The Minister for the Environment and Heritage has provided the following reply - (1)-(3) I now table the list of consultants engaged by the Environmental Protection Authority over the past 12 months, including the purpose and cost of each consultancy. [See paper No 533.] (4) (a) The EPA has five staff within its secretariat and is supported by a service unit within the Department of Environmental Protection comprising the environmental impact assessments and policy coordination divisions. (b) The Environmental Protection Authority budget for salaries in its secretariat and operational costs, including consultancies, for 2002-03 is $614 000. Substantially greater resources are provided through the EPA service unit and the balance of the department.
