(a) if yes, which firm or firms currently provide a media monitoring service;

(c) if yes, since 23 September 2008 how much has been paid for media monitoring services;
(d) if yes, what is the duration of the contract(s); and
(e) if yes, when did the contract(s) commence?

As of 1 January 2010 the Government Media Office ceased to operate in a move to streamline decision making and coordination across portfolios. As part of these changes responsibility for daily Media Monitoring Services for Ministers and some government agencies has been transferred to the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
Department of Agriculture and Food:

(a) Media Monitors Australia Pty Ltd
(b) $60,000
(c) $54,348.22 (this includes expenditure on the current contract and a previous contract with Media Monitors)
(d) Two years with an option of a one year extension
(e) 1 August 2009
Forest Products Commission
(a) Media monitoring services are provided by Media Monitors Pty Ltd and Meltwater News Australia Pty Ltd.
(b) The costs for these services are as follows:
Media Monitors: $2,474 per month
Meltwater News: $194 per month
(c) From 23 September 2008 to 5 May 2010 the Forest Products Commission has paid $36,692 for these services.
(d) The duration of the contracts are as follows:
Media Monitors Pty Ltd - one year
Meltwater News Pty Ltd - three years (fixed)
(e) The contract with Media Monitors Pty Ltd commenced on 18 January 2008 and with Meltwater News Pty Ltd on 1 January 2010.
