I refer to Death Certificates issued by the Office of the State Coroner and ask: (a) what is current waiting time for inquests to be heard; (b) what is the current back log of inquests waiting to be heard; (c) what is the average time for reports to be finalised following an inquest; (d) what is the average time following a report being handed down for the Death Certificate to be issued; and (e) what were the staffing levels for the Coroner’s Court in: (i) 2010; (ii) 2011; (iii) 2012; (iv) 2013; and (v) 2014?

(a) 22 weeks (as at 31 July 2014).
(b) 122 (as at 31 July 2014).
(c) Up to three months depending on complexities of the inquest and whether the Coroner requires further submissions.
(d) Death certificates are issued by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages within three business days of receiving the Coroner's finding from the Coroner's Court.
(e) The staffing levels for the Coroner's Court:
(i) In 2010, 20 including 2 Coroners (included 5 x temporary staff pending recurrent funding);
(ii) In 2011, 27 including 4 Coroners (included 12 x temporary staff of which 2 were Coroners pending recurrent funding);
(iii) In 2012, 27 including 4 Coroners (included 12 x temporary staff of which 2 were Coroners pending recurrent funding); and
(iv) In 2013, 27 including 4 Coroners (temporary funding was made recurrent from July 2013.
(v) In 2014, 27 including 4 Coroners.
