The Minister for Energy has provided the following reply - (1) The Electricity Reform Implementation Steering Committee has been established by the Government to implement the electricity reform program. The committee is independently chaired by the chief executive officer from the Office of Energy. The committee consists of eight members, including a single representative from Western Power. In addition to the committee’s independent member, Mr John Kelly, the steering committee’s terms of reference also require consultation with a range of stakeholders, including industry. The nature of that consultation is currently being developed by the steering committee. (2) The Government recognises that industry has an important role to play in the electricity reform implementation process. It also recognises that consultation is required with other stakeholders, such as small consumer representatives and the renewable industry. (3) The Government has been very encouraged by the strong support it has received from industry to implement the recommendations of the Electricity Reform Task Force. The Government acted swiftly to endorse those recommendations and establish an implementation framework that is fair, transparent and efficient. (4) The members of the electricity reform implementation steering committee are: Ms Anne Nolan, who is the chairperson of the committee, Acting Coordinator of Energy, Office of Energy; Mr Michael Megaw, Chief of Staff, Office of the Deputy Premier; Mr John Langoulant, Under Treasurer, Department of Treasury and Finance - I will wait to see how many laughs we get from the Leader of the Opposition. Hon Norman Moore interjected. The PRESIDENT: Order! The minister will proceed with the answer, not answer subsidiary questions. Hon TOM STEPHENS: We know the Leader of the Opposition is a joke, but I do not think there is any reason for him to laugh in such a dismissive manner at talented people who have been put to good work by the Government. The answer continues - Mr Nenad Ninkov, Acting Chief Executive Officer, Western Power Corporation; Ms Cheryl Gwilliam, Director General, Department of Local Government and Regional Development; Mr Tim Sharp, Deputy Crown Solicitor, Crown Solicitor’s Office; Mr John Kelly, independent member; and the executive director of the electricity reform implementation unit, when appointed.
