COMMISSIONER OF POLICE — REAPPOINTMENT
380. Mr M. McGOWAN to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question. Since 16 July, what
conversations has the Premier had with the police commissioner? Did he at any
time ask him to consider his position?

I have had two conversations with the police commissioner.
Did I ask him to consider his position? What is this—pistols at dawn or
something? You are just nuts! It is just crazy stuff. No, Leader of the
Opposition, we do not behave like that on this side of the house. That is
obviously what the Leader of the Opposition might have done in government. That
is not the way this government behaves. I had two conversations with the police
commissioner, because I wanted to hear his account of events, which he did. We
discussed the report once it was available to the commissioner. I, of course,
spoke to the police commissioner and asked him to give his account of events,
because I need to be reassured—as I am now by the report—by the
police commissioner, and he did reassure me.
