Perth Children's Hospital—Puberty blockers
545. Hon Maryka Groenewald to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the
expert evidence accepted by Justice Strum in a recent Family Court of Western
Australia judgement.
(1) Are practitioners at Perth Children's Hospital's
gender diversity service required to tell parents and legal guardians of the
potential comorbidities and long-term side effects of puberty-blocking drugs?
(2) If not, why not?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. The following has been
provided by the Minister for Health.
(1)–(2) Yes. As part of the informed
consent process, the parents and/or legal guardians are informed about the potential
comorbidities or long-term side effects of puberty-blocking drugs.
