SOUTHWEST24 CALL CENTRE - CLAIMS BY HON HELEN MORTON
I refer the minister to his answer given on Wednesday, 13 September 2006 regarding the SouthWest24 crisis call centre being transferred to Sydney from 10.00 pm until 8.00 am each day to reduce the cost of the service by $90 000. In response to issues I had raised in the Parliament about SouthWest24, the minister specifically stated, “which the member subsequently admitted she could not substantiate”. (1) Will the minister please indicate when and where this supposed admission took place? (2) If this supposed admission took place in the Parliament, can the minister indicate where it is recorded in Hansard ? (3) If this supposed admission occurred outside the Parliament, can the minister indicate whether the admission was made by me and to whom? Hon SUE ELLERY

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) Hon Jim McGinty immediately implemented investigations into Hon Helen Morton’s allegations of 2 May 2006 that a “suicidal man living in the south west” had contacted the SouthWest24 crisis call centre. The minister would like to reiterate that McKesson Asia-Pacific Pty Ltd and mental health clinicians in the south west found no record or evidence of such a patient described by Ms Morton. The honourable member herself, in a subsequent statement to the Legislative Council on 10 May 2006, mentioned this same fact and stated that she was unable to supply a name that would assist McKesson and the Department of Health to investigate her claims. This means that Ms Morton’s allegations cannot be substantiated. (2) All of the above is recorded in Hansard at the relevant dates. (3) Not applicable.
