VIOLENT SEX OFFENDERS — PAROLE
1373. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the minister representing the
Minister for Police:
I refer to the minister's
answer on 19 October 2023 to my question without notice that revealed that the
oldest return to prison warrant has been outstanding for a staggering 13 109
days.
(1) Will the
minister end this farce whereby when asked which of these fugitives the
community should be on the lookout for, instead of providing a transparent
answer, an opaque response was provided that —
 Western Australia Police Force
assesses investigative opportunities, which includes seeking information from
the public ... on a case-by-case basis?
(2) Will the
minister now name this fugitive who has been on the run for in excess of 35
years?
(3) If any Western Australian has any information
about the whereabouts of this fugitive, who should they contact?
(4) How many
other return to prison warrants are currently outstanding?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to me
by the Minister for Police.
(1)–(4) As
the Minister for Police, I support the Commissioner of Police and the Western Australia
Police Force in their assessment on individual cases and the decision on what
information is publicly released and make the honourable member aware that he
is diverting a large amount of the WA Police Force staff resourcing from
operational priorities in answering his series of questions on return to prison
warrants. As at 7 November 2023, there are 46 return to prison warrants
outstanding.
