Minister for Police:
I refer to the Western Australia
Police Force state security investigation group.
(1) What is the process by which an
individual or group can be referred to the SSIG?
(2) Is there an
oversight, review or like committee that makes that determination, and what is
the name of that committee or entity?
(3) What legislation governs that
committee or entity and which sections?
(4) What is the membership of that
committee or entity and how are members appointed?

some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to me
by the Minister for Police.
The Western Australia Police Force
advises the following.
(1) Referrals
made to the state security investigation group come from a wide range of areas,
depending on the nature of the information and its relevance to the SSIG
operational charter.
(2) Yes, oversight is provided
through an internal supervisory chain of command.
(3) There is no defined legislation
for the committee or entity.
(4) Members are appointed due to
their positions and ranks.
