HOUSING —
WAITLISTS
46. Hon
SALLY TALBOT to the Minister for Housing:
(1) Does the
minister agree with his predecessor in the housing portfolio that, ''The
actual indicator on how we are going is how many people are on the waiting list
or how many applications we have''?
(2) How many
people in the minister's electorate are on the waiting list?
(3) How much
will that number reduce in 2015?

(1) I am unaware
of the comments made by my predecessor. My measure of success will be how many
houses are available for people to move into. The Department of Housing has
done a lot of work to bring on housing stock, especially through the affordable
housing strategy. It is going very well. I would gauge the success of getting
people into their home —
Hon Alanna Clohesy interjected.
Hon COL HOLT : Hon Sally Talbot asked me about success. I
do not agree that success should be measured by the number of people on the
waiting list.
Several members
interjected.
The PRESIDENT : Order! Let the
minister say it in his words.
Hon COL HOLT : Again, the measure of success is getting
people off the waiting list and into houses—into their own home through
either shared equity, a Keystart loan or public housing.
(2) I do not
know how many people in my electorate are on the waiting list at this time.
(3) Not
applicable.
