In light of the fact that poor food choices contribute heavily to the high levels of chronic diseases and the rising rates of obesity in Australia, especially in our young people, I ask, will the Minister commit to implementing an easy to read information system of food labelling for Western Australia as called for by almost every health advocate in Australia, and if no, why not?

The development and implementation of a simplified easy to read food labelling system is supported. The Council of Australian Government (COAG) Legislative and Governance Forum on Food Regulation has agreed to the development of a national interpretive easy to read "front of pack labelling" system. The Department of Health is a member of a committee established to progress this work.
