In addition to, or as an alternative to issuing a Traffic Infringement Notice for "Create undue and Excessive Noise", Police officers may issue a "Compliance Notice" pursuant to Regulation 61 of the Road Traffic (Vehicles Standards) Regulations 2002 if the officer is of the opinion the vehicle does not comply with the Regulations or Vehicle Standards. WA Police do not retain data on the number of such Compliance Notices issued as Main Roads WA is the holder of this information. (2) Traffic Infringement Notices Issued for Section 6(2)/141 of the 'Road Traffic Vehicle Standards Regulations 2002' in Thornlie, Gosnells and Huntingdale in the 2009-10 and 2011 Financial Years: Suburb Offence Description Issue Date Grand Total 2009-10 2010-11 THORNLIE Have a motor vehicle which emits visible emissions for a continuous period in excess of 10 seconds 0 1 1 GOSNELLS Have a motor vehicle which emits visible emissions for a continuous period in excess of 10 seconds 0 0 0 HUNTINGDALE Have a motor vehicle which emits visible emissions for a continuous period in excess of 10 seconds 0 0 0 Grand Total 0 1 1 Note: In addition to, or as an alternative to issuing a Traffic Infringement Notice for "Having a Motor Vehicle Which Emits Visible Emissions for a Continuous Period in Excess of 10 Seconds", Police officers may issue a "Compliance Notice" pursuant to Regulation 61 of the Road Traffic (Vehicles Standards) Regulations 2002 if the officer is of the opinion the vehicle does not comply with the Regulations or Vehicle Standards. WA Police do not retain data on the number of such Compliance Notices issued as Main Roads WA is the holder of this information. (3) Anti-social driver behaviour is one of the priorities articulated in the WA Police Road Policing Strategy 2011-2014. Hoon laws empower police to impound vehicles that are driven in a reckless manner, do a burnout; or are driven at a speed equal to or greater than 45km/h over the posted speed limit. In 2010, there were 2,024 vehicles seized under hoon legislation with 59 per cent of hoon drivers aged between 17 and 24 years. (4) The RoadWise Program is the WA Local Government Association's (WALGA) Community Road Safety Program. The Program consists of a community road safety network, supported by regional road safety officers who work with Local Government, RoadWise Committees, road safety partner agencies and the administration of the Community Road Safety Grants Program. Through the RoadWise Program, the Local Area Targeted Enforcement Signs (LATES) Project aims to jointly focus road safety agencies to target specific issues in a local area. A variety of targeted offences can be added to these signs matching enforcement activity with community-based road safety activities. These signs increase publicity related to enforcement and the social unacceptability of unsafe road behaviours. Specific information as to whether LATES have been utilised to display messages relating to excessive motor vehicle exhaust and engine noise should be accessed from WALGA.
