I refer the Premier to the announcement yesterday by the Minister for Justice of a so-called independent inquiry into the great escape of nine dangerous criminals from the Supreme Court last week. (1) Will detailed and comprehensive terms of reference for this inquiry be released or is the head of the inquiry, Mr Hooker, to rely on only the few vague details in the brief ministerial statement released by the Minister for Justice? (2) Will Mr Hooker investigate all aspects of the matter, as the Premier promised in the House yesterday, or will he be restricted to simply those issues touched on in the minister’s brief ministerial statement? Dr G.I. GALLOP

(1)-(2) Of course the terms of reference will be available when they are finalised. We intend the inquiry to be comprehensive and to look at all aspects of what happened last Thursday. We also expect it to give advice to the Government on where it might go to from there.
