ALBANY GAS PIPELINE
32. Mr P.B. WATSON to the Premier:
I refer to the Premier's failure to deliver the
Albany gas pipeline in his first term of government and his renewed promise at
the last state election.
(1) Will the
people of Albany finally get the gas pipeline the Premier has now promised
twice, and will it be completed in this term of government?
(2) If yes to (1), when will construction begin?
(3) What will the average householder in Albany have to pay
to connect to the gas supply?

(1)–(3)
Having been called a liar by the member for Albany yesterday, I am not
particularly well disposed to indulge him in information about his electorate.
Mr
P.B. Watson : You just don't care about the people from Albany, do
you?
The SPEAKER : Premier,
I think that is behind us now!
Mr B.S. Wyatt :
That was the old government!
Mr C.J. BARNETT :
Yes, it was.
Had the member for Albany given me prior notice, I would have
given him an update —
Ms
M.M. Quirk : Is there something we don't know?
The
SPEAKER : Member for Girrawheen!
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : No, I would have told you —
Mr
P.B. Watson : You didn't give me any updates. You wouldn't
give me any figures during the campaign because you made it up as a thought
bubble.
Mr
C.J. BARNETT : I did provide details during the election —
Several members interjected.
The
SPEAKER : I call the members for Albany and Wanneroo to order for the first
time. I would now like the Premier to answer the question and for the member
for Albany to let him.
Mr C.J. BARNETT :
The Albany pipeline project is going through an expressions of interest process
and the easements have been determined. Had the member given me some prior
notice, I would have given him an update on that since the election campaign.
Mr P.B. Watson :
The easement has been done for four years.
Mr C.J. BARNETT :
The pipeline project will go ahead; simple as that.
