ARTIFICIAL REEF — CARNARVON
654. Ms M. BEARD to the Minister for Fisheries:
I refer to the minister's
response to my question in April this year in relation to the long-awaited
artificial reef in Carnarvon, his confirmation that the tender process was
underway and the reef was expected to be in the water by the end of the year.
(1) Have there been any issues or
delays with the tender process?
(2) Has the tender been awarded?
(3) Will the artificial reef be in the water by the end
of the year as per the minister's commitment in his media release?

(1)–(3) I
thank the member very much for that question. I know the importance of the
artificial reef to the people of Carnarvon and I know they have waited a long
time and been disappointed in the past. However, there was a problem with the tender in that we did not have compliant
tenderers at the last round of procurement . The Gascoyne Development Commission has seized the moment. It is working
very proactively to get out a refreshed tender and to move as quickly as
possible. I am assured that that will be within the next few weeks. It will get that out on a provider basis
and see what opportunity there is to advance that. It is not for want of trying; it is about how we can actually
get procurement for the artificial reef in Carnarvon happening.
