I advise that I believe I may have an answer to the question asked earlier by Hon Barry House. I thank Hon Brian Ellis for providing advice of this question and I am advised in the following terms — (1) The environmental issues include the fact that the location of the mining activity is within the Southern Beekeepers Nature Reserve, for which demonstration of net environmental benefit is required under cabinet decision 5.07(2) of 15 July 2002. Westdeen Holdings Pty Ltd has not demonstrated that net environmental benefit will result from the clearing of 2.84 hectares of native vegetation, as proposed in its application. There has been unsatisfactory rehabilitation of adjacent sites on the mining lease that were previously cleared for mining by Westdeen Holdings Pty Ltd. There is also land degradation in the area in the form of soil erosion. (2) All of the above. (3) The time frame for approval is dependent upon resolution of the environmental issues identified in (1).
