I do not have those figures handy, but it sounds - Several members interjected. The SPEAKER : Order! Mr P.D. Omodei interjected. The SPEAKER : Order! I call the member for Warren-Blackwood to order. Mrs M.H. ROBERTS : I do not have the figures at my fingertips, but an enormous number of people are on parole at any given moment in time. Those people are criminals, which is why they are on parole, and sometimes they do reoffend. Some of those who reoffend are dangerous. Several members interjected. The SPEAKER : Order! I call the member for Vasse to order for the third time. Mrs M.H. ROBERTS : It does concern me that a number of serious criminals are granted parole and do offend while on parole. In my view they need to be returned to jail. I will be taking that issue up with the Attorney General. It will not be a knee-jerk response. The government will make a considered and measured response. Several members interjected. The SPEAKER : Order! I call the member for Leschenault to order for the first time.
