SHARK DRUM
LINE PROGRAM — ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AUTHORITY ASSESSMENT
172. Hon LYNN MacLAREN to the
Minister for Fisheries:
I refer to today's announcement by the Environmental
Protection Authority not to assess the drum lines off our coast.
(1) When will the
drum line proposal for annual deployment off popular beaches be referred to the
EPA for assessment?
(2) In reference
to the minister's media statement of 27 December, when will we see the
introduction of the coastal management zones under which local beach
communities will develop shark plans for their regions?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
(1)–(2)
When will we do access? I discovered only today that it came down in our
favour. Obviously, once 30 April comes around, we will of course evaluate the
process that has taken place. Then I believe we will make a decision from
there.
