Attorney General representing the Minister for Fisheries:
I refer to the shark research
section at the Department of Fisheries.
(1) How many full-time equivalents
did the shark research section have at 1 July 2015?
(2) How many FTEs does the shark
research section currently have and what are their roles?
(3) What research activities is the
unit currently involved in?
(4) How many sharks have been tagged
since 1 January 2016?

On behalf the Minister for
Fisheries, I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) Four FTEs.
(2) It has four
FTEs consisting of one research scientist and three technical officers, two of
whom are dedicated to maintaining the VR4 tagged shark monitoring network.
(3) The unit is
currently involved in the following research activities: the monitoring and
assessment of Western Australia's shark resources and shark fisheries,
and the maintenance of the VR4 tagged shark monitoring network and opportunistic
tagging.
(4) Four sharks have been tagged.
