I refer to teacher registration. (1) Is it a fact that final-year teaching students cannot apply for a position until they have graduated and have a registration number? (2) As this process is likely to take until at least the middle of January to complete, is the minister concerned that this will disadvantage newly graduated teachers trying to enter the work force and schools making arrangements for the beginning of the 2006 school year? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. (1)-(2) No. All final-year teaching students are encouraged to apply to the Western Australian College of Teaching for registration, which is completed upon presentation of the applicant’s final academic transcript showing “course complete”.
