I refer the Minister to the move of staff from South Perth to 1 Nash Street, and I ask: (a) How much office space is the government leasing; (b) What is the rental coast per square metre; (c) How many staff will move into 1 Nash Street; (d) Is it correct that the government has taken a 10 year lease at 1 Nash Street, and if so, why such a long lease; (e) Who owns the newly leased property; (f) Why doesn’t the government develop new premises for the Department rather than spend money on renting alternative office space; (g) Have any facilities / buildings been built for Agriculture in Perth in past 25 years; and (h) If yes to (g), please provide details of what that development included?

(a) 7,800.8 square metres plus 23.34 square metres of storage.
(b) Annual rental costs are $415 per square metre with outgoings of $131.15 per square metre.
(c) 550.
(d) Yes. The lease is expected to meet the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development’s (DPIRD) office requirements for the next 10 years and is financially prudent for Government. The commercial terms include an upfront cash incentive and a recent fit-out which required only minor modifications to accommodate operational requirements.
(e) Corval Partners Limited ATF The Corval Workzone Trust.
(f) It is common practice for Government Departments to lease premises as opposed to purchasing outright, as a more cost-efficient measure and to provide greater flexibility over the long term. As part of the 2021-22 State Budget, the McGowan Government allocated $1 million to scope a Project Definition Plan for new DPIRD biosecurity, research and development facility to replace the 60-year-old Kensington South Perth facilities.
(g)-(h) Yes. A new aviary at Kensington South Perth was built in 2014 and a temporary laboratory to house critical biosecurity services at Kensington South Perth will reach practical completion in 2022.
