Mr BARNETT

I thank the member for Dawesville for the question. As it covers specific details, I will read a response provided by AlintaGas. Mr Marlborough interjected. The SPEAKER: The member for Peel shall come to order! Mr BARNETT: AlintaGas has completed a gas main laying project that has gone through Mandurah and has brought natural gas to San Remo, Coodanup and Erskine; it has not gone to the Nairns area. The high pressure gas main, as the member said, has reached the Dawesville Channel. The area of Wannanup to the east of the Old Coast Road is scheduled to be reticulated by 30 September 2000. The north eastern area of Falcon to the east of the Old Coast Road is scheduled to be reticulated by 31 December 2000. A small eastern area of Falcon is scheduled to be reticulated by mid-January 2001. Residents from the majority area of Falcon to the west of the Old Coast Road have an opportunity now to register an interest in connecting to AlintaGas. The level of interest received from residents will be assessed after 1 July 2001. In areas where there is a high level of interest, AlintaGas will conduct an economic analysis with a view to reticulating the area. The expansion of the gas network throughout this State has been most important. Gas is a clean fuel. Mr Marlborough: The member for Dawesville predicted that years ago. Mr BARNETT: I cannot respond to the high calibre of the wit and intellect of the member opposite.
