minister representing the Minister for Housing:
(1) How many
public housing properties are currently vacant in the south east metropolitan
region?
(2) If
available, will the Minister for Housing provide a breakdown of these
properties' locations by suburb?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) In total,
207 properties are vacant in the department's south east metropolitan
region. At any time, a small percentage of the more than 36 500 statewide
public housing properties will be vacant for a number of reasons, including
refurbishment or maintenance between tenancies, awaiting occupation by new
tenants, awaiting sale or demolition prior to redevelopment, or allocation to
the management of community housing groups.
